Get Fired Up: Building Your Own Backyard Fire Pit with Landscaping Blocks

Materials you'll need:

  • Landscaping blocks

  • Sand or gravel

  • Fire ring or metal insert

  • Level

  • Tape measure

  • Shovel

Step 1: Choose a location Choose a level location for your fire pit. Make sure it is at least 10 feet away from any structures, trees, or flammable materials.

Step 2: Mark the area Mark the area for the fire pit using spray paint or stakes and string. Make sure the area is circular and the diameter is the size you want for your fire pit.

Step 3: Dig a hole Using a shovel, dig a hole in the marked area that is approximately 6 inches deep and the same diameter as your fire pit.

Step 4: Fill with sand or gravel Fill the hole with a layer of sand or gravel. This will provide a stable base for your landscaping blocks.

Step 5: Lay the first layer of blocks Lay the first layer of landscaping blocks around the perimeter of the hole. Make sure the blocks are level and even. You can use a level to ensure that they are straight.

Step 6: Lay subsequent layers Continue to lay subsequent layers of blocks until the fire pit reaches the desired height. You can stack the blocks in a variety of patterns to create a unique look.

Step 7: Install the fire ring or metal insert Install the fire ring or metal insert in the center of the fire pit. Make sure it is level and secure.

Step 8: Finish the fire pit Add any desired finishing touches, such as decorative rocks or bricks, around the outside of the fire pit.
