Materials you'll need:
Paint primer
Paint
Paintbrushes or rollers
Sandpaper (150-grit and 220-grit)
Tack cloth
Screwdriver or drill
Drop cloths or newspaper
Painter's tape
Cleaning solution (such as TSP or vinegar)
Step 1: Remove cabinet doors and hardware Remove all cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware (such as knobs and hinges) using a screwdriver or drill. Place them on a drop cloth or newspaper in a well-ventilated area.
Step 2: Clean the cabinets Clean the cabinets thoroughly using a cleaning solution such as TSP or vinegar. Remove any dirt, grease, or grime with a damp cloth.
Step 3: Sand the cabinets Using 150-grit sandpaper, sand the cabinets and drawers to remove any glossy finish or rough spots. Sand lightly, being careful not to damage the wood. Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.
Step 4: Apply primer Apply a coat of paint primer to the cabinets and drawers using a paintbrush or roller. Let it dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 5: Sand and clean again Using 220-grit sandpaper, sand the cabinets and drawers again to smooth out any rough spots or brush strokes. Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.
Step 6: Apply paint Apply a coat of paint to the cabinets and drawers using a paintbrush or roller. Let it dry completely before applying a second coat.
Step 7: Sand and clean again Using 220-grit sandpaper, sand the cabinets and drawers again to smooth out any rough spots or brush strokes. Wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.
Step 8: Apply second coat of paint Apply a second coat of paint to the cabinets and drawers using a paintbrush or roller. Let it dry completely before reattaching hardware and doors.
Step 9: Reattach hardware and doors Reattach the hardware and doors to the cabinets using a screwdriver or drill. Use painter's tape to protect the painted surfaces from scratches during installation.
