DIY Guide: How to Install a New Overmount Kitchen Sink.

Materials you'll need:

• New overmount kitchen sink

• Adjustable wrench

• Plumber's putty

• Silicone caulk

• Screwdriver

• Razor blade or utility knife

• Tape measure

• Pencil

• Towel

Step 1: Remove the old sink Turn off the water supply valves under the sink. Disconnect the water supply lines and drain pipe from the old sink using an adjustable wrench. Use a razor blade or utility knife to cut through any caulk or adhesive around the edges of the sink. Lift the sink out of the countertop and clean any remaining debris.

Step 2: Measure the opening Measure the length and width of the opening in the countertop where the new sink will be installed. Write down the measurements.

Step 3: Prepare the sink Apply a thick layer of plumber's putty around the underside of the lip of the sink. This will create a watertight seal between the sink and the countertop.

Step 4: Install the sink Lift the sink into place, positioning it so that it fits snugly into the opening in the countertop. Press down on the sink to make sure it's level and seated properly. Use a towel to wipe away any excess putty that squeezes out from underneath the sink.

Step 5: Secure the sink Attach the mounting brackets or clips that came with the sink to the underside of the sink. Tighten them using a screwdriver. The brackets or clips will secure the sink to the countertop.

Step 6: Connect the plumbing Connect the water supply lines and drain pipe to the sink using an adjustable wrench. Make sure all connections are tight and secure.

Step 7: Apply caulk Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the sink where it meets the countertop. Smooth the caulk with a caulk smoothing tool or your finger.

Step 8: Clean up Wipe away any excess caulk with a damp cloth. Let the caulk dry according to the manufacturer's instructions before using the sink.
